The Modern Art Museum

In 2007 the Modern celebrated the 115th anniversary of its founding charter, granted in 1892 to the Fort Worth Public Library and Art Gallery. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is the oldest art museum in Texas and one of the oldest museums in the western United States. The Modern maintains one of the foremost collections of postwar art in the central United States. The Museum's permanent collection consists of approximately 2,600 works of art, including paintings, sculpture, site-specific installations, drawings, prints, photographs and videotapes/discs. A new home for the Modern Art Museum, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, opened in Fort Worth's Cultural District on December 14, 2002.

The first Sunday of every month, a day on which admission is free to the public, Spanish-language docent-led tours are available at 2 pm. The Spanish-speaking public is invited to come and enjoy the Museum, and learn more by experiencing a tour in their native language.

The Museum also offers lunch, a Sunday Brunch and a Coffee Bar refreshments at the Cafe Modern, conveniently located within the Museum. Reservations may be made by calling 817.840.2157.

The Museum is closed Monday and holidays, including New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
