Lone Star Film Society

Lone Star Film Society exists to preserve and present the art of the moving image and examine its influence on world culture. LSFS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to cultivating an appreciation of the Visual Arts; engendering visual literacy; supporting community efforts regarding the film; and building recognition for Fort Worth as an International Film Festival destination.

With the help and expertise of many individuals, organizations and sponsors, the first Fort Worth Film Festival was held in downtown Fort Worth in October of 1997. In 2002 the festival board decided to expand its horizons and increase its commitment to community affairs. Reorganized as the Lone Star Film Society, the festival was rechristened as the Lone Star Film Festival and is but one component of a broad-ranging slate of plans. In addition to the current "Classics at the Modern: Celebrity Choice" series, a monthly screening of classic cinema at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Society plans to begin an educational program benefiting area children; to work with local organizations to further film awareness and appreciation; to work to preserve and restore the area's cinematic heritage; to bring in touring cinema events and exhibitions; and to showcase independent films that have a connection to Texas.

The Lone Star Film Society has established a Lifetime Achievement Award and has bestowed that honor on Gregory Peck, Donald O’Connor and in 2005, Fort Worth’s own, Bill Paxton. The Society is a co-presenter of the Partners Together for Health Academy Awards Gala benefiting the projects of the Society and John Peter Smith Hospital’s pharmacy program.

The Society is supported and recognized by some of the leading industry institutions such as the Library of Congress; American Film Institute (AFI); University of Southern California; Texas Film Commission; Dallas Film Commission; Lions Gate; New Line Cinema; Magnolia Pictures; Warner Bros. Entertainment; and many others.
