Artes de la Rosa

Artes de la Rosa (formally The Latin Arts Association of Fort Worth, Inc, (LAA)) is the non-profit organization chosen by the city of Fort Worth to manage the historic gem of Fort Worth's North Side - The Rose Marine Theater. Artes de la Rosa was incorporated in 1998 and obtained its non-profit status from the IRS in November 1999. Artes de la Rosa is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and interpreting the art, culture, lives, and history of the Latin community by: (1) establishing a venue for Latin art and cultural performances; (2) offering educational art/culture programs to the community, including at-risk youth in low-income neighborhoods; (3) providing opportunities and support for established and emerging artists and performers; and (4) serving as the central support organization and resource center for Latin art and culture in the City of Fort Worth. Artes de la Rosa has a growing roster of programs that serve a diverse community both in the Rose Marine Theater and in the community at large. These programs span from an award-winning after-school drama program for youths and an accompanying theater company, to various staged productions.

The Rose Marine Theater is one of Fort Worth's newest, yet historically oldest, performance venues. The theater opened as a movie house in the 1920s and has operated under three names: the Rose, the Roseland, and the Marine Theater. When it was the Marine Theater, the facility presented Spanish language films to the North Side's growing Hispanic population. The theater is listed on the National Register of Historic places and is part of the Marine Commercial Historic District. In October, 2000, the theater was fully restored by the City of Fort Worth, and now stands in the heart of North Fort Worth as an ideal venue for live theater, dance, music, and other performing arts. It is also a community resource that serves as a convening place for community forums, public meetings, and group meetings. Today, the Rose Marine Theater has a seating capacity of 254 seats and provides an intimate setting with excellent acoustics for any type of performance. A brand new sound and light system has been completely installed by the City of Fort Worth. Adjacent to the theater is the Mercado Plaza which provides ample space for outdoor performances and receptions. The Mercado Parking Lot located on the corner of Main Street and NW 14th Street provides parking spaces for patrons of the theater.

The long-term vision for the entire 1400 block of North Main is to be part of a "Mercado" where open-air markets, artisans, and live theater take place. The goal is to continue developing all of North Main Street so that a linkage can be established between the Stockyards Historical District, the Marine Commercial Historic District, Downtown Fort Worth, and the Cultural District.
