Ballet Concerto

Ballet Concerto was founded in 1969 by artistic director Margo Dean. It was the first cultural organization in Fort Worth to request and obtain approval from the Fort Worth ISD Board of Education to conduct an annual tour of the schools. The group has been presenting lectures and demonstrations on the art of dance to school-aged children since that time.

Ballet Concerto's mission is to outreach to the community by presenting the art of ballet and other forms of dance to audiences of every age and socio-economic background. They aspire to touch not only those who might have little or no exposure to the performing arts, but long time dance lovers as well. Ballet Concerto is particularly dedicated to providing lectures, demonstrations and other dance programs to school-aged children. In addition, Ballet Concerto has presented annually since 1983 the Summer Dance Concert, an outdoor celebration staged within Fort Worth's cultural district, most recently at the lovely Trinity Park Pavilion. Choreographers of national and international repute, as well as emerging choreographers, are invited to contribute to this event. Ballet Concerto also presents each December its annual Holiday Special, an assortment of holiday ballet and Spanish Dance, for students in the FWISD and surrounding areas. An evening performance of this program is staged for the benefit of the general public, with the addition of "O Holy Night", a special dance re-enactment of the Nativity.

In 1999, Ballet Concerto initiated the FIND program, or "Find and Inspire New Dancers", in the Fort Worth Independent School District, designed specifically to offer the opportunity of dance training to students who have limited financial means and who otherwise might not have any opportunity to study ballet. Those who show talent and potential may further their studies at Ballet Concerto's studio.
