Theatre Arlington

Theatre Arlington began with a group known as the Potluck Players and a production of "Light Up the Sky". In 1973, these pioneers joined with a group of Arlington citizens who were interested in bringing professional quality live theatre to the city, and together they established the Arlington Community Theatre.

During the next two decades, the gypsy troupe went from performing in a variety of venues to establishing their first permanent home in a 1952 vintage church on Division Street, finally moving into their current home on Main Street in downtown Arlington. The Allen Saxe Mainstage Theatre has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years, and now features new, comfortable theater seating, a contemporary color scheme showcased by new carpeting and paint in both the auditorium space and the lobby, a new, larger concessions area, and improvements to the lighting, air conditioning and heating systems – all of which contribute to the over-all aesthetic experience and comfort of theatregoers.

In August of 2000, Theatre Arlington was donated the use of a 7500 square foot building, directly across the street from the theatre, to use for the expansion of their education programs. The Theatre Arlington Education Center houses the theatre’s administrative offices, rehearsal hall and downstairs box office. This additional space has allowed Theatre Arlington to expand our education program from four classes weekly to twenty, with a 200% increase in enrollment.

Readers of the "Star-Telegram" awarded Theatre Arlington the 2001 Best of Tarrant Award for their production of "The Secret Garden." In partnership with the Arlington YMCA, the organization has produced for the past twenty-five years "A Taste of Arlington", one of Tarrant County’s most successful fundraisers. Theatre Arlington continues to move forward educationally with the Theatre Arlington ACTS (Adult and Children’s Theater School) and ACT UPS (their outreach program for at-risk students at Speer Elementary, Thornton Elementary and Crow Elementary).

The theater produces seven mainstage productions and two children’s theater productions each year and operates a year-round theater school for youth ages 4 to 104. Theatre Arlington is proud to provide scholarships and ticket donations to the underserved in the community.
