The museums of the Fort Worth Cultural District are proud to announce the second annual Day in the District on September 29, 2007 from 10 am to 5pm. Museums will offer free admission and many of Fort Worth’s cultural organizations will offer free performances in and around the museums.

A major mid-career retrospective of the artist Frank Gohlke will be on view at the Amon Carter Museum September 15, 2007 – January 6, 2008, in the special exhibition Accommodating Nature: The Photographs of Frank Gohlke.

Tableware, vases, and artistic pieces are among the various types of pottery that will be on display and available for purchase at the sixth Annual Pottery in the Park Festival, sponsored by The Potters’ Studio of Lockheed-Martin Recreational Association (LMRA).

Fort Worth Public Library is set to announce the expansion of its Jazz Preservation Project, during a special press conference and luncheon, 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, Fort Worth Central Library Gallery, 500 West 3rd St. The luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m.

With two stages of continuous jazz music serving up national headliners such as Arturo Sandoval, George Duke, Joshua Redman Trio, David ‘Fathead’ Newman, and Marcia Ball, this year’s lineup is in a class by itself and sure to please even the most discriminating jazz fan.

Creative Arts Theatre & School will open its 2007–2008 season with their production of Honk! Jr, based on the beloved story of “The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christian Andersen. The play will run September 28 through October 7, 2007.

Hip Pocket Theatre presents the World Premiere of a new show written and directed by HPT founder Johnny Simons. The Doggies and the Kitty runs August 31 through September 23; opening night tickets are $5.00 each.

The Amon Carter Museum reopened on Saturday, August 18 at 10 a.m., following its closure this summer to undergo repairs to the building’s fire suppression system. Admission to the museum galleries is now free to the public.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents a special exhibition of hyper-realistic sculpture by renowned contemporary sculptor Ron Mueck from June 24 through October 21, 2007. Mueck’s “Untitled” (Seated Woman) is one of the most popular pieces in the museum’s permanent collection.

Linda M. Lee, Executive Director of Texas Nonprofit Theatres, Inc. (TNT) since April 1, 1995, has been designated an “AACT Fellow.” This highly distinguished honor is bestowed for life upon those members of AACT “who over a period of years have contributed significantly to the idea and ideal of community theatre.” Nomination and election to this select group is the responsibility of the current Fellow membership.
