The 13th Annual Cookin’ for Kids, Fort Worth’s original celebrity chef cook-off, will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the River Ranch in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Twelve professionals will compete in this year’s live event, including chefs from Del Frisco’s, Four Seasons, Reata and Fred’s Texas. Each chef will be assisted by one or more “notable Texans,” including TCU head football coach Gary Patterson, Fort Worth city councilwoman Kathleen Hicks and 2010 Texas State Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton. Proceeds benefit Kids Who Care, a local non-profit organization.

Apex Arts League presents an evening of family entertainment featuring Theater Organist Robert MacDonald, at 7:00 PM on Sunday, Feb. 28, at St. Barnabas the Apostle Church in Keller. Mr. MacDonald will provide live accompaniment on the Johannus organ as silent films starring Laurel & Hardy and other legendary stars are screened. Magnolia at the Modern, an ongoing weekly series featuring critically acclaimed films, will be screening a variety of feature length and short films that have been nominated for 2009 Academy Awards. Screenings are held in the intimate and comfortable Auditorium of The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and tickets go on sale two hours prior to each show. The Oscars will be presented on March 7, 2010.

Texas Dance Theatre Artistic Director Wil McKnight has announced that visual artist Daniel Corona – whose work inspired and provided the backdrop for McKnight’s ballet Fast – will have his work displayed at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center throughout the month of February. A gallery reception will be held on February 12 prior to a performance by TDT. Then, TDT will repeat the ballet with additional artwork by Corona at its Season Finale performance on April 30.

The Black Theatre Troupe of Phoenix, Arizona, is mounting a new production of Romulus Linney’s A Lesson Before Dying, and Jubilee Theatre Artistic Director Ed Smith will serve as the guest director for this intense stage play. Smith directed the drama to critical and audience acclaim during Jubilee’s 2007-2008 season.
