Albert Bierstadt’s 1875–76 oil on canvas The Great Trees, Mariposa Grove, is on loan to the Amon Carter Museum from a private collection and is currently on view in the museum’s atrium.

Ron Tyler, professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin and newly appointed director of the Amon Carter Museum, will present a lecture entitled How Did They Do That? Artist Views of Texas Cities, 1871–1891 on Saturday, February 25 at 11 a.m. in the museum auditorium. This program is presented in conjunction with the current exhibition Patterns of Progress: Bird’s-Eye Views of Texas, on view at the Carter until May 28. The lecture is free.

In celebration of Youth Art Month, the Museum will be displaying works by Arlington Independent School District Students, Grades 1-12 from February 25 to March 25, with a grand opening reception planned for March 3.

The Kimbell Art Museum announced today the acquisition of two works of Japanese art – an extremely rare eighth century lacquer mask and a charming scroll painting from the 1700s. They will be on view immediately in the Museum’s galleries.

Pier 1 has awarded a $1,000 grant to Theatre Arlington to support ACT UPS, the theater’s outreach program for at-risk fifth-graders in Arlington. This is the second year for Pier 1 to show their support for Theatre Arlington’s outreach efforts.
