Bass Hall and Performing Arts Fort Worth proudly present An Acoustic Evening with Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson.
In 2009, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson performed a trio of shows together in California – the first time these two country music legends had ever shared the same stage at the same time. The shows were such a hit with fans, the pair decided to put together a 2010 tour, which will kick off in Houston before it heads to Fort Worth.
“These two don’t sing songs. They sculpt them in the air with their voices,” a San Francisco Chronicle critic wrote of a 2009 Merle/Kris show. “(Their songs come) straight from the heart every time.”Merle Haggard is one of country music’s most prolific and iconic artists. The singer, songwriter, and musician has spent the bulk of his 40-year-plus music career releasing critically-acclaimed albums, winning countless music-industry awards and changing country music’s landscape. Rolling Stone writer Jim Miller labeled him “the greatest country artist of our time,” while the AllMusic Guide has decribed him as “the living king of country music.”
Revered by his fellow country-music peers and performers – as well as his army of devoted fans – as one of the finest songwriters in the business, Kris Kristofferson has penned some of the most important – and popular – songs in country music’s history. Such songs include “For the Good Times,” “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” “The Pilgrim,” “Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do)” and “Me and Bobby McGee.” Kristofferson has also made a name for himself as an actor, having accumulated nearly 100 roles in films and television shows, including A Star is Born, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Blade and Lone Star.
