Schola Cantorum of Texas will be joined by Arborlawn’s Chancel Choir, and the Texas Wesleyan University Chamber Singers in A Concert for the People of Haiti, Sunday, January 24 at 3:00 PM at Arborlawn United Methodist Church in South Fort Worth. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door and given to the American Red Cross relief effort for the people of Haiti.
Each ensemble will present a 20-minute segment of music under the batons of their respective conductors: Jerry McCoy, Tom Stoker, and Jerry Bierschenk. Organists Robert MacDonald and Jerry Westenkuehler will also play solo organ repertoire as part of the 1 ½ hour concert. The concert will conclude with a massed choir piece under the baton of McCoy.

Schola Cantorum of Texas is North Texas’ premier choral music performing group. The 110-voice Arborlawn Chancel Choir leads the church’s two weekly traditional worship services and sings seasonal concerts with The Orchestra at Arborlawn under the direction of Tom Stoker. The ensemble is one of ten performing ensembles that comprise the Arborlawn ministry of music.
Jerry Bierschenk directs the Texas Wesleyan University Chamber Singers. The choir is preparing for its May 17-24, 2010 tour of French-speaking Canada.
Robert MacDonald, retired organist/choir master of Fort Worth’s First Presbyterian Church and former organist at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and Riverside Church, will join with Arborlawn United Methodist organist Jerry Westenkuehler, a nationally published composer, in organ repertoire.
The doors for the concert will open at 2:40 on Sunday, January 24.
