Circle Theatre presents a stage reading of As Is by William M. Hoffman, one of the first American plays to deal with the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
A Drama Desk award-winning play, As Is focuses on an individual’s struggle with AIDS and its impact on him, his friends, lovers, family, and the medical community. The story is told in a seamless stream of conscious flow that has a compelling inner logic and meaningful structure.
As Is premiered Off-Broadway in March 1985 at the Circle Repertory Company before transferring to Broadway that May. It won the 1985 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, an Obie Award for Distinguished Playwriting, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and received three Tony Award Nominations, including Best Play.
