Arts Fifth Avenue is proud to present Mondo Drummers in Concert as the group marks a milestone in their history.
Be there as Mondo Drummers celebrates their fourteenth (14th) year under the direction of Fort Worth’s very own Eddie Dunlap. The concert will feature over 18 drummers ages 8 – 19 and the Mondo Drummers Performance Ensemble. World rhythms from Africa, Cuba and Brazil as well as original improvisations will be performed on authentic instruments.
Mondo Drummers is a program that began in 1994 through the Eastside Neighborhood Arts Center as an outreach program for at-risk youth. While percussion and hand instruments are the focus of the program, Mondo goes a few steps further by teaching the history and culture of musical styles from around the world. In 1999, Mondo became its own 501©3 non-profit corporation reaching 10,500 children in 55 metroplex schools and libraries. The group’s after-school and evening instructional programs give children the opportunity to have a true hands-on artistic experience. Mondo has also developed and implemented a program to provide musical education to home-schooled students.
