ABOUT THE BUTTERFLY CONNECTION
The Butterfly Connection is a multi-arts collaborative creating new works and adaptations cultivated beyond conventional boundaries. The group has been producing theatrical works and/or arts festivals since 1997. Its first Arts Festival provided community artists a free outlet to show, sell, and celebrate their works. The festival was free of charge, and produced with personal funds. Subsequent festivals over the years served over 1,500 people.
In 2002, Adam Dietrich presented his original play, “A Gentle Story”, under the auspices of The Butterfly Connection, on a 5-acre estate in Joshua, Texas. The play was presented over the course of three days using community volunteers. The site had no electrical service, and thus the play was done by candlelight and firelight! It was a small hit that played to Metroplex audiences who were willing to drive all the way to Joshua to see a play. These patrons are loyal to The Butterfly Connection to this day.
The group then decided to produce plays on an annual basis, and their efforts have received warm accolades from audiences and critics alike. The 2006 productions explored contemporary themes through contemporary means incorporating multi-media in 4 out of 5 plays. That same year, The Butterfly Connection received 501 c(3) non-profit status, developed the first Board of Directors, and previewed a touring conceptual show, “Ladders and Balls”. TBC began new partnerships with young arts groups such as the Metrognome Collective and the Dallas HUB Theatre, and continued other successful partnerships. TBC continued work with underprivileged kids at the East Fort Worth Montessori and initiated national collaborations with other non-profit organizations. TBC achieved all of these goals without a single paid staff member or compensated artists. This dedication from young local artists in creating challenging new work without compensation speaks to the need in our community not being fulfilled through other outlets.
Currently, TBC seeks continued growth by developing earned income revenue streams, developing private and corporate funding relationships, building on an established individual donor base, and expanding audiences. The company envisions a cohesive atmosphere for artists to successfully create traditional and non-traditional performance pieces and a safe environment for all audiences to enjoy these events. TBC will creatively illuminate the ties that bind and the walls that separate, while challenging past boundaries of storytelling.
