Jubilee Theatre concludes its 26th Season with RUDY, a musical montage which chronicles some of the many shows that Jubilee’s legendary Founder Rudy Eastman brought to life. Eastman’s close friend Gloria Abbs teams with new Artistic Director Ed Smith and Music Director Joe Rogers to create this celebratory look back at the 25 years that Eastman served as Artistic Director of Jubilee Theatre.
Once again, audiences will take a ride with Coop De Ville, that time travelin’ brother; experience the hilarious adventure of Alice Wonder; and drool over sweet potato pie when Auntee drops by. It was Eastman’s adaptations that allowed some to truly understand Shakespeare, and The Tempest and Brother Mac are here too. And who could ever forget God’s Trombones or Book of Job? If you’ve followed Jubilee over the years, RUDY will remind you why you fell in love with the theatre. If you’re experiencing Jubilee for the first time, it’s guaranteed that you’ll never forget the man who has been named a Texas Legend.
RUDY features Major Attaway, Malcolm Beaty, Melanie Bivens, Regina Brumfield, Steven Griffin, Janice Jeffrey, Mickee Jay, Sheran Goodspeed Keyton, Teekoyah Nickson, Crystal Phillips, Angelo Reid, Robert Rouse, Durant Searcy, and Rickey Spivey. RUDY is directed by Ed Smith with musical direction by Joe Rogers. Set and lighting design are by Michael Pettigrew, wardrobe by Barbara O’Donoghue, and choreography by Sheran Goodspeed Keyton. RUDY is sponsored in part by Miller Brewing Company and the Helen Irwin Littauer Trust, Bank of America Trustee.
RUDY previews July 13, 14, 15, and 19; and the show runs July 20 through August 19. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Preview performance tickets are $10; tickets range from $16 to $25 for the run of the production.
