Creative Arts Theatre & School will conclude its phenomenal 2006-2007 season with a large scale production of Children of Eden, a two-act musical play written by Stephen Schwartz, the creator of such beloved classics as Godspell and Pippin. Proceeds from this production will be used to fund the school’s scholarship program benefitting youth who otherwise might be unable to fulfill their educational and career goals.
Children of Eden is adapted from a book by John Caird, which in turn is loosely based on the Book of Genesis. Act One tells the story of Adam and Eve, and Cain and Abel, while Act Two deals with Noah and the Flood. Although it uses the Bible as a plot source, the musical is actually a story about parents and children, without a specifically religious point-of-view. In compelling fashion – and with beautiful music that includes the exquisite love song “In Whatever Time We Have,” a favorite at wedding ceremonies around the world – Children of Eden touches on universal themes of family, greed, anger, and love. Ultimately, it delivers the tender message that “the hardest part of love… is letting go.”
Children of Eden is directed by Alana Gay. Alana graduated cum laude with a degree in Biology, and was the Drama Director at Geneva Glen Camp during the summers of 2000 through 2005. An accomplished performer, she has appeared onstage throughout the metroplex. She was in the cast of Children of Eden at Theatre Three in Dallas. She has also appeared in The Trojan Women as Helen. An alumni of CATS, Alana performed in such notable productions as Godspell, A Little Princess, and Free to Be… You and Me. Alana is grateful and proud to be a kidney transplant recipient.
