Theatre Arlington is incredibly proud to present the world premiere of a new musical entitled OZ!, and the author is in the office just down the hall! Theatre Arlington’s Business Director Todd Hart has branched out to write his own musical version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He has written every note, every lyric, every back up vocal, choreographed every step and directed all 25 actors.
Originally from California, Mr. Hart got his start at San Jose Children’s Musical Theater, now Children’s Musical Theater San Jose, the largest youth performing musical theater in the world. He has been involved in theater either on stage, instructing or administratively for more than 34 years and has been teaching young people for over 24 years. He is proud to be the director of TA’s youth touring group, Standing Room Only. This versatile individual wears many hats: professional studio singer, teacher, director, music director, choreographer, stage manager, production manager, actor, singer, dancer, arranger, business director and now author.
Mr. Hart has performed with Dallas Theater Center, Casa Mañana, Lyric Stage, Stage West, Dallas Children’s Theater and, of course, Theatre Arlington. Nine years ago he began working for Theatre Arlington and is currently serving as Business Director. A member of Actors’ Equity Association, Mr. Hart has been seen at Theatre Arlington in Rumors, Something’s Afoot, Clue: The Musical, The Music Man and many others. Mr. Hart most recently appeared in Love Is Here To Stay – A Gershwin Revue.
According to Mr. Hart, his most memorable theatrical experience is, “Anytime I see a cast I direct come into their own.” And he will surely see that happen as OZ! has its world premiere run from February 23 through March 11, 2007. This all-youth production (every one of the actors and crew are ages 8 to 18) is a family-friendly event you won’t want to miss!
