Auditions for The Underpants by “wild and crazy” comedian Steve Martin will be held at 6:00 PM on Sunday, Nov. 12, at Theatre Arlington. Martin’s pungent satire is about a couple whose conservative existence is shattered when the wife’s bloomers fall down in public with hilarious repercussions. The comedy is rated PG.

Theatre Arlington is seeking an ethnically diverse cast for the parts of:

Theo Maske – age 30s to early 40s, burly, brusque husband
Louise Maske – mid to late 20s, Theo’s wife and our heroine
Gertrude Deuter – late 30s to early 40s, comical busybody neighbor
Frank Versati – late 20s to early 40s, elegant playboy/poet
Benjamin Cohen – late 20s to late 30s, asthmatic, comical Jewish suitor
Klinglehoff – late 50s to 70s, elderly gentleman, stuffy boarder

All roles require broad comic styles. For auditions, there will be cold readings from the script. All roles will receive a stipend. The Underpants will be directed by B.J. Cleveland, Theatre Arlington’s artistic director.

Rehearsals for The Underpants will begin Dec. 3 with a break for the holidays. The show runs Jan. 11 through Feb. 4 with performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.
