Drive a few minutes south of downtown Fort Worth to discover Ryan Place, one of Fort Worth’s first premier neighborhoods, and experience A Candlelight Christmas in Ryan Place, the 23rd annual holiday home tour. It’s a perfect way to welcome the beginning of this festive time of year while celebrating the continuing restoration and enhancement of the historic Ryan Place neighborhood.
On the first weekend of December, four private homes will be decorated for the holiday season and opened for the tour. The styles may range from classic Tudor to Mediterranean to Spanish Colonial and may be over 100 years old. A bus runs between the homes to make the touring easier for visitors, and horse-drawn carriages rides are available for an additional cost. The neighborhood is decorated in white lights and peopled with strolling carolers. Piping hot cider carts and a craft fair at St. John’s Episcopal Church create a very special Christmas atmosphere.
Over 12,000 visitors have attended previous tours. The funds raised were used to restore the magnificent gates on the two main entrances to Ryan Place. The focus of the neighborhood is now on lighting the neighborhood with period street lamps. Recently installed fixtures may now be seen on Elizabeth Boulevard and at many other streets and intersections. The ultimate goal of A Candlelight Christmas in Ryan Place is to relight the entire neighborhood!
