The Barefoot Brigade is a coalition of area modern dance professionals and enthusiasts working to improve exposure, accessibility, and economics for Modern Dance. Barefoot Brigade seeks to work alongside the larger community to develop the audiences, venues, and financial resources necessary to make North Texas a nationally-recognized community for the creation and presentation of innovative dance works.
The Barefoot Brigade is currently accepting applications for the following:
- The NOTcracker: A Barefoot Brigade Holiday Dance Festival of Modern Dance, Contemporary Dance, and Performance Art
- New artist members of the Barefoot Brigade coalition

All Barefoot Brigade events are sponsored by the member companies of the Barefoot Brigade coalition: Beckles Dancing Company, Contemporary Dance Fort Worth, and Phase 2 Dance Ensemble (formerly known as JAADE Dance Theatre). The NOTcracker is co-presented by the Dallas Museum of Art. The March Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival is co-presented by the Bath House Cultural Center with the City of Dallas’ Office of Cultural Affairs.

The NOTcracker: A Barefoot Brigade Holiday Dance Festival of Modern Dance, Contemporary Dance, and Performance Art
The NOTcracker is a free event to the community in an informal performance style, presented in the cafe atrium area of the Dallas Museum of Art.
Applicants for the NOTcracker are ENCOURAGED, but NOT required, to submit works related to the holiday season—Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s, Winter, etc. Proposed works could be related in any possible way to one of the holidays or the winter season (could be interpreted seriously or as satire, or have a remote connection). Other works will be given full consideration, however, a minimum number of “holiday” works will be programmed.
NOTcracker Choreographer Eligibility:
The company/artist’s work submitted must somehow fall into the category of modern dance/contemporary dance OR performance art with a strong movement element.
MORE ABOUT NEW ARTIST MEMBERS:
The Barefoot Brigade encourages new artist members to apply to join the producing committee of members. A September 1 deadline is requested for those interested in planning the next festival at the Bath House and other area community outreach efforts.

March 9-11, 2007—Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival at the Bath House Cultural Center. Details for this year’s festival structure and application procedures will be announced after a meeting with new artist membership.
