Branford Marsalis is a three-time Grammy Award winning saxophonist and New Orleans native with 12 jazz albums and two classical albums under his belt. With such recognized family members as Ellis Marsalis and brothers Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason Marsalis, jazz music is in this performer’s blood. Marsalis’ performing accomplishments include touring with Sting and Miles Davis and acting as the musical director of the Tonight Show band from 1992 to 1995. In 2002 he created his own record company, Marsalis Music. This American jazz phenomenon will debut his new CD Friday, Sept. 15th at 9:30 pm.
Since achieving international recognition with his single “Feels So Good” in 1977, Chuck Mangione’s musical career has continued to thrive. This energetic trumpet player from Rochester, New York has won two Grammy Awards and released more than 30 albums since the early 1960s. Other musical accomplishments include Mangione’s “Chase the Clouds Away” being used as the background music during the 1976 Olympic Games and his single “Give It All You Got” being chosen as the theme to the Winter Olympic Games of 1980. Not even Hurricane Katrina could stop the traditional jazz musicians of Preservation Hall Jazz Band from sharing their talent with jazz fans across the country. Straight out of New Orleans, this group of musicians organized by Preservation Hall was accustomed to performing the hall nightly until Katrina forced its closure in 2005. Regardless of the circumstances the band continued to tour throughout the hall’s closure. For more than 25 years the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has toured the United States, bringing New Orleans jazz to the masses.
