In 2003, the Journal of Japanese Gardening’s Shiosai Project selected the gardens of the Adachi Museum of Art as one of the top-ranked gardens in Japan. The Shiosai Project surveyed Japanese gardening professionals and created a list of their favorite gardens based on overall quality of design, construction, maintenance, and experience. The gardens at the Adachi Museum have enjoyed this distinction ever since. In addition to their commitment to every detail of the visual impact of their gardens on the guests, the Adachi staff is also committed to sharing their success with others through the training of gardeners from the West.

Mr. Wataru Takeda, the Adachi Museum’s Director of Public Relations, and John Powell, the first Westerner to train as a gardener at Adachi, will share their thoughts about these beautiful gardens. The program will begin with an introduction covering the history and construction of the museum and gardens, followed by a showing of the newly completed DVD The Gardens in the Four Seasons, with all of its stunning photography and orchestration. John Powell will show and discuss a bonus section of the DVD covering garden maintenance. A question and answer period will follow.

Exploring the Gardens of the Adachi Museum of Art Lecture and Film will be presented in The Modern Art Museum’s auditorium, Wednesday, June 21 at 7 pm. A reception (cash bar) will be held prior at 6 pm. Admission is free. Reservations required, please call 817.840.2154 or send a message to tgorski@themodern.org.
