The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth’s unique programs for young artists emphasize learning through direct observation of art and thoughtful art activities inspired by the current exhibition. This introduces students to some of the complex and challenging concepts and practices behind modern and contemporary art. Distinguished area artists are invited to design and lead art activities based on the Modern’s current exhibition. Activities encompass everything from art making in the traditional sense to an interdisciplinary exploration. This year’s Art Camp and Summer Art Study will focus on works in the special exhibition Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration and in the Modern’s permanent collection.

Grouped by age and accompanied by their counselor, art campers spend time in the galleries and on the grounds exploring the exhibition, which is followed by time in the Museum studios with two artists each session. The instructors provide enriching opportunities to process, apply, and respond to ideas formed in relationship to the exhibition. The last day of camp ends with a reception and display of artwork to celebrate the campers’ creative accomplishments with families and friends. Modern campers make exciting discoveries concerning art, the world, and themselves.
