Youth Art Encounters, (YAE) an annual tradition in Arlington, is an exhibition celebrating Youth Achievement in Art. YAE is a combined effort of the Arlington Museum of Art,, Arlington Independent School District and the Arlington Art Education Association (AAEA). A local organization of dedicated art teachers, the AAEA has volunteered time and effort to organize and install the show for the past ten years. The AMA is also grateful for the support of the Arlington Arts League.
Presenting more than 1,500 works by Arlington ISD students at all grade levels, YAE fills the main, mezzanine and education-level galleries of the museum. For the ninth year, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is generously sponsoring the exhibition.
Representing 68 AISD schools, talented students grades 1 – 12 will display their creative efforts in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media.
Videographer Robert Spence will be on hand again this year to capture interviews with these young artists and their teachers, and these interviews will then air on AISD cable.
The YAE opening reception continues to draw the largest crowd of the year to the Arlington Museum of Art—attendance in 2005 on opening night alone brought 4,600 student artists, family and guests to the museum. This year’s opening reception will be held Friday, March 3, from 5 – 7 PM. The general public is invited to attend. Admission to the opening reception and the exhibition are free.
