On Friday, January 13, Richard R. Brettell, co-curator of the exhibition, will present a free lecture called “Gauguin and Impressionism: An Exhibition about Exhibitions.” The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of The Kimbell Art Museum.. Dr. Brettell will discuss how before his days as a Post-Impressionist, Paul Gauguin was an active and influential member of the Impressionist group, showing works in as many exhibitions as Monet and more than Renoir.

Also on Friday, January 13, the Museum will host a Friday Workshop for adults from 2 to 4 p.m. The workshop is inspired by Gauguin’s works, and will focus on his still-life paintings. The workshop includes a tour of the exhibition, followed by a discussion and an art activity using pastels to recreate Gauguin’s still-life techniques. On Saturday, January 14, kids ages 6 to 14 and their parents will find out what Impressionism is all about in a Children’s Workshop called “Impressionist for a Day.” The program is held from 10 a.m. to noon, and includes a tour of the exhibition, followed by hands-on art activities. Materials fee is $15 ($12 for members); no charge for parents. Maximum of three children with an adult.
