Amphibian Stage Productions proudly revives the smash hit, Gutenberg! The Musical! by Doug Simon and Bud Davenport. The original production was the winner of the Fort Worth Weekly Readers Choice Award in 2008.
In this two-man musical spoof, a pair of aspiring playwrights perform a backers’ audition for their new project: a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. In their “enhanced” version of Gutenberg’s biography, he tackles love, racism, bigotry, alcoholism, poverty and of course, Satan himself. With an unending supply of enthusiasm and unsettling cultural references, Bud and Doug sing all the songs and take on over 30 characters in their historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract – fulfilling their ill-advised dreams.
Several local luminaries will make special guest appearances throughout the show’s run, including Fort Worth City Councilman Joel Burns on July 8th and 10th.
