Bass Hall concludes its 10th Anniversary Festival with a special concert featuring Fort Worth-born gospel music phenomenon Kirk Franklin.
Franklin has helped redefine contemporary gospel music through merging secular and spiritual ideas to create songs that top both gospel and R&B charts. His first album, Kirk Franklin and the Family, spent 100 weeks on the gospel charts and was the first debut gospel album to go platinum. And the successes just kept coming. He is the biggest selling gospel artist in history, with over 12 million albums sold and over 20 #1 singles on gospel radio, plus 5 Grammy Awards; an American Music Award; 34 Stellar Awards (an event he co-hosted in January 2008); 12 Dove Awards; 4 NAACP Awards; 2 BET Music Awards, and a Soul Train Award.
More than just a commercial success, he strives to be a hero and an example to anyone who thinks their life is beyond redemption. Franklin, who never knew his father and was abandoned by his mother, was raised by his Aunt Gertrude, a strict Baptist who collected aluminum cans to pay for Franklin’s piano lessons. By age 11, Franklin, who could sight read and play by ear, was leading the Mount Rose Baptist Church choir in Fort Worth.
“Kirk Franklin blends Christian themes with contemporary grooves and textures… Whatever your relationship to the message, the medium smokes.” – Entertainment Weekly
Admission: $ 18.00 – $100.00
