Bass Hall presents Texas singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo.
Escovedo was a founding member of the pioneering San Francisco based punk band The Nuns in the mid-70’s. In the early 1980’s he moved to New York City, where he helped form Rank & File, a band that forged the early 1980s country-punk sound that later became known as alternative country. After Rank & File relocated to Austin, Escovedo left the band and formed True Believers with his brother Javier.
In 1992, Escovedo embarked on a solo career with his debut album Gravity. Escovedo’s album, The Boxing Mirror, released in 2006, traces his journey from the brink of death at the hands of Hepatitis C to renewed wellness and artistic creativity. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram recently raved of his latest CD, Real Animal: “Hearing sharply drawn songs like “Sister Lost Soul” or “Sensitive Boys”, with their evocative atmosphere and intoxicating composition, temps one to compare the criminally underrated Escovedo to Bruce Springsteen.”
This year, Escovedo has toured with the Dave Matthews Band and joined Bruce Springsteen on stage during one of The Boss’ concerts in Houston.
