Fort Worth Opera presents Cinderella (La Cenerentola) by Gioacchino Rossini.

First performed in Rome in 1817, Rossini’s Cinderella is based on the well-known fairy tale. It came right on the heels of his triumphant The Barber of Seville. Written in the short span of three weeks (with help from a collaborator), it contains some of the finest writing for solo voice and ensembles.

Cinderella works as a servant for her step-sisters and step-father who show her no kindness. The prince, intent on discovering true love, swaps clothing and roles with his faithful servant, and sets out to visit the townspeople. He and Cinderella fall in love. Later, at the ball, the fake prince falls for a resplendent Cinderella, but she proclaims her love for a humble servant. On hearing this, the true prince reveals himself and goodness triumphs.

Performed in Italian with projected English subtitles.

Location: Bass Hall

Admission: $ 19.00 – $159.00
