Greater Cleburne Carnegie Players presents the Tony Award winning musical, 1776, featuring music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and book by Peter Stone.

Lively musical numbers and a witty, beautifully written script bring history to exhilarating life in this fascinating recreation of the events leading to the crafting and the signing of the American Declaration of Independence. Songs include “Sit Down, John”, “The Lees of Old Virginia”, “Yours Yours Yours” and “Molasses to Rum”.

“This is by no means a historical tract or a sermon on the birth of this nation. It is warm with a life of its own; it is funny, it is moving … Often, as I sat enchanted in my seat, it reminded me of Gilbert and Sullivan in its amused regard of human frailities. ... The songs and lyrics are, as I have indicated, remarkably original.” – John Chapman, The New York Daily News

201 N. Caddo Street, Cleburne, TX 76033
