Annual Melodramas 2009

Friday August 07, 2009 - Sunday August 16, 2009
Rated: G

Popcorn Players return to their roots with the presentation of two one-act shows, performed back-to-back. The fun begins with an old-fashioned, quick-witted, hysterically funny melodrama. Then – after a quick intermission and a quick change – the same actors return for an entirely different show.

The First Show: Curse You Otis Crummy or … A Rip In Old Calico

The silver mines of Calico, California, have gone dry, and the little town has fallen on hard times. Our villain, Otis Crummy, pretends he is giving shelter to the unfortunate. Actually, he’s running a gang of pickpockets, burglars and sneak thieves. Our hero, Real McCoy, is a crusading newspaperman who pretends to be a member of the gang to get the goods on Crummy.

The Second Show: Alias Smedley Pewtree or … A Villain of Glitter Gulch

Glitter Gulch, once a roaring gold mining center, has fallen on hard times. The villainous banker, Smedley Pewtree, is forcing the few families left to pay up or get out. Is there a way out of this perilous predicament?

Admission:

  • $10.00 – Adults
  • $ 8.00 – Students, Seniors

All Sunday matinee tickets are available at a special discount of $ 5.00.
