Magnolia at the Modern, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art in New York, presents a meticulously restored print of director Howard Hawk’s fast paced comic gem, His Girl Friday (1940).

Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell star in this wacky satire about a newspaper editor who uses every trick in the book to keep his ace reporter ex-wife from remarrying. Loosely based on the Broadway play (and 1931 film), The Front Page – in which Russell’s character of Hildy Johnson was a man! – this laugh out loud adaptation features a lot of dialogue and action which the two leads reportedly improvised while the cameras were rolling. With Ralph Bellamy in a brilliant turn as Russell’s hapless fiance, and a stellar supporting cast.
