Magnolia at the Modern, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art in New York, presents a beautifully preserved print of director Ernest Lubitsch’s first talking picture, The Love Parade (1929).
Songstress Jeanette MacDonald made her screen debut in this charming and sophisticated musical comedy about the antics of a newly wedded royal couple. The score by Victor Schertzinger and Clifford Grey includes the popular hit, “Dream Lover.” Also starring the continental sensation Maurice Chevalier, this fluffy concoction features the famous “Lubitsch touch” at its most sublime. With Lillian (I’ll Cry Tomorrow) Roth, comedic acrobat Lupino Lane, and comic Ben Turpin.
