Love and literature compete in this compelling tale of friendship and betrayal. Ruth Steiner, a college professor and prominent short story writer, acquires young Lisa Morrison as her protégé. The two women form a strong mother/daughter kinship, until one of them crosses a boundary involving personal, ethical, and moral consequences
