A  Lesson Before Dying

Friday January 25, 2008 - Sunday February 24, 2008
Rated: NR

Jubilee Theatre proudly presents Romulus Linney’s magnificent stage adaptation of A Lesson Before Dying, directed by Ed Smith.

This powerful adaptation of Ernest J. Gaines’ 1993 National Book Critics Award winning novel centers on a young African-American man wrongly sentenced to death during the deeply prejudiced 1940’s. Through a reluctant school teacher, he is taught how to live and die with grace and dignity. A Lesson Before Dying is about the ways in which people insist on declaring the value of their lives and addresses the basic predicament of what it is to be a human being. Gaines’ novel was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and was an Oprah’s Book Club choice.

A talkback with the artists is scheduled after the January 27 and February 7 performances.

Admission:

  • $20.00 – Friday and Saturday Evenings
  • $14.00 – Thursdays and Week-end Matinees

Student and Senior Tickets $2.00 Off with Valid ID.
