Granbury Opera House is reviving one of its all-time biggest, splashiest, crowd-pleasing musicals, America the Beautiful. Hosted by Will Rogers, the Depression era cowboy and movie star whose gentle humor was balm to a country in crisis, this optimistic show celebrates what’s right in America today and looks forward to the future.

Lonnie Weeks, age 18, has won the Silver Medal in the Junior Division for his performances at the prestigious International Ballet Competition which was held in Helsinki, Finland. Mr. Weeks is a member of the Texas Ballet Theater’s permanent company.

Theatre Arlington has announced that it recently received a $5,000 grant from Union Pacific Railroad. The funds are to be used to support the theatre’s ACT UPS (Applied Creative Thinking Using Performance Skills) program, which combines theatre games and acting exercises to help improve the self-esteem, confidence, problem-solving and life skills of inner city at-risk adolescents.

Regal Opera Company will be holding auditions for its September production of The Coffee Shop on Tuesday, July 7, and Saturday, July 11, 2009. Auditions will be held St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Hurst, and appointments are strongly recommended.

Colored lights will illuminate the night sky during a festive block party on June 25 at 8:30 PM when the Avenue of Light on Lancaster Avenue is turned on for the first time. This public art project by Cliff Garten Studio consists of six stainless steel sculptures that incorporate energy efficient LED lights. Towering 36 feet high, these amazing works been installed along the median from Lamar Street to Main/Commerce Street.
