The Plano Symphony Orchestra was first established in 1983 as the Plano Chamber Orchestra. One year later, the Board of Directors created a volunteer committee called ENCORE as a vehicle to reach orchestra goals. In 1993, the Board of Directors also established an Advisory Council to provide input on issues affecting the orchestra’s future. The name officially changed to the Plano Symphony Orchestra in January 1998.
The orchestra’s seasons gradually expanded from 3 concerts in the first year to more than 19 concerts. A Season now consists of: a five-concert Reserved Series with one concert repeated; four Holiday Pops concerts; a Movie Magic Family concert; two Chamber Ensemble concerts; and six school-day concerts for Collin County fourth-graders.
For many years, the orchestra’s principal performance hall was the 1050-seat theater of the Fellowship Bible Church North. Chamber Ensemble concerts were presented at other various churches in Plano. The Plano Symphony Orchestra now begins their Premiere Season in the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson; they also perform at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 5801 West Plano Parkway, Plano 75093.
