Pegasus Theatre is serious about comedy. In fact, the stated mission of Pegasus is to present new and original comedies in a forum that highlights the professional talents of Dallas-area theatre artists. Founded in October of 1985 in a converted warehouse, Pegasus was part of the "first wave" of artistic renaissance that transformed Deep Ellum into a thriving arts center.
Over the course of time, Pegasus Theatre has matured artistically. It has also outgrown its original performance space, and is currently staging its productions at the prestigious Eisemann Center in Richardson. But despite its growth, the group has remained true to the original purpose for which it was founded: to focus on comedy, especially original works by promising playwrights.
The folks at Pegasus believe that comedy is a powerful and generally undervalued form of communication. They believe that comedy can deliver messages that no other art form can, changing people's lives in remarkable ways. They focus exclusively on comedy because it requires an extra level of discipline and because it is their passion. Pegasus is proud to be one of only a handful of theatres in the country devoted to preserving and advancing the art form of comedy.
