The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas was founded in 1996. The mission of the Chorus is to give children of the Dallas Metroplex the experience of musical artistry and excellence through choral singing in a group that reflects the diversity of the metropolitan area.
The Chorus includes four children’s choruses of fourth through eighth grade girls and boys with unchanged voices and the Youth Chorus of high school aged students. Qualifications are a good voice, a good sense of pitch, and a commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals and performances.
The Chorus performs extensively throughout the Dallas area, and has been a frequent guest of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In fact, the Chorus made its Carnegie Hall debut with the DSO in a performance of Carl Orff’s "Carmina Burana" under the baton of Andrew Litton.
To build and strengthen its tradition of vocal excellence, superb musical direction, and artistic innovation, the Chorus must have a strong fiscal and administrative base. As a non-profit organization, the Chorus relies on the proceeds of tuition, ticket sales and concert fees, which fund nearly two thirds of its operations. The remainder of its operating budget is provided through the generosity of the general public – through gifts, grants and donations.
