Set in Canada immediately before, during, and after World War I, Mary’s Wedding is a story of two young lovers told as flashbacks within a dream. Unbound by time, unabashedly romantic, and distinctly contemporary in theatrical style and setting, this beautiful love story has captivated countless theater audiences over the past few years. Once you see it, you will know precisely why. Stephen Massicotte’s script won the 2000 Alberta Playwriting Competition and the 2002 Betty Mitchell Award for Best New Play.

The playwright will be joining Rover Dramawerks for some of the performances the weekend of July 19, followed by a road trip with several of Rover’s board members to visit the most famous battle scene in Texas. As the Canadian put it, “I can’t go all the way down there and NOT see the Alamo!”

Massicotte will be joined that weekend by artist Duncan Larkin, whose World War I paintings were a primary inspiration for director Lisa Devine’s vision of the play. These paintings can be found at the artist’s website, under the World War One Paintings and Drawings link.
