On November 4, 2007 at 7:00 PM, Contemporary Theatre of Dallas will welcome The Modern Stage, a production company founded by Dallas playwright Tom Sime, as they present a stage reading of Sime’s new drama, Oculus.

Oculus tells the story of an imprisoned queen, the lady-in-waiting who is secretly her lover, and a king increasingly impatient over his bride’s refusal to consummate their arranged marriage. Scientific, sexual, political and religious intrigue fuel this intimate drama, set in an imaginary, long-ago monarchy poised on the brink of profound change.

CTD, where Mr. Sime is managing director, has generously offered the use of its space for this reading, designed to help the playwright develop the script with the participation of a professional director and cast, and feedback from the audience. The actors will perform the play with scripts in hand and minimal movement. The reading is free and open to the public. A discussion with the playwright, cast and director Susan Sargeant will follow the performance.

For mature audiences only. The play includes adult language, sexuality and violence.
