In response to a higher-than-expected demand for tickets, the Contemporary Theatre of Dallas revival of Love Letters – originally scheduled to open July 12 – will now open Friday, July 6, adding two performances of this romantic classic as reimagined by master director René Moreno.

Love Letters is the play that launched Contemporary Theatre of Dallas five seasons ago. A. R. Gurney’s deceptively simple and deeply moving script – presented as a series of letters read aloud by the actors – chronicles a lifelong friendship that turns, briefly and tragically, into a love affair over the course of decades of correspondence, from early childhood to late middle age. Andrew Makepeace Ladd III (Earl Browning III) and Melissa Gardner (Sue Loncar) are both born into a world of Eastern Seaboard privilege. But while his ambitions impel him ever higher in conservative politics, while her artistic bent, chaotic love life and bouts with depression and substance abuse take her down a more sorrowful path. Both laughter and tears are brought forth by this intimate epic.

Rated PG-13 for adult language and drug/alcohol references.
