The Board of Trustees announced today the appointment of Kevin Moriarty as Artistic Director of the Dallas Theater Center, effective September 4, 2007.

Kevin Moriarty, 40, will be the Dallas Theater Center’s fifth artistic director in its nearly 50-year history and will lead the institution into the new, state-of-the-art Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. According to John Howell, Chair of the Dallas Theater Center’s Board of Trustees: “Kevin Moriarty is a remarkably talented theater director with exceptional leadership abilities. On behalf of the Dallas Theater Center and its Board of Trustees, I am thrilled to introduce him to the Dallas community.”

AN IMPRESSIVE RESUME

Mr. Moriarty has served as the Artistic Director of the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, New York for the past seven years, where he has directed the world premieres of Indoor/Outdoor by Kenny Finkle, Bach at Leipzig by Itamar Moses, and Rough Magic by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Acclaimed for his artistic scope in directing plays ranging from Shakespearean comedies and Greek tragedies to American musicals for the whole family, he has also directed productions of Hello, Dolly!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Hangar.

He is also an Associate Director at the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island, a Tony Award-winning regional theater, where his directing credits include The Merry Wives of Windsor, Richard II, and A Delicate Balance. In addition, he is the founding head of the MFA Directing Program at Brown University as part of the university’s nationally recognized consortium with the theater.

As an acclaimed interpreter of musical theater, Mr. Moriarty directed the national tour of the Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar. With a passion for classic, contemporary, and new work, his directing highlights include the New York premiere of Mark St. Germain’s The God Committee at the Lamb’s Theatre, a tour of Romeo and Juliet for Lincoln Center Institute, and Jekyll and Hyde for Theatreworks. He has directed at many leading regional theaters around the country, including Virginia Stage, the Majestic Theatre in Boston, and Syracuse Stage.
