Effective Aug. 1, Mr. Jonathan Palant has been appointed the new artistic director of the Turtle Creek Chorale according to an announcement today from Mr. Peter Anderson, board chair.
The announcement came immediately after Mr. Palant’s selection was announced to the Chorale membership. Mr. Palant will succeed Dr. Timothy Seelig, retiring at the end of this season.
“I am both humbled and thrilled to have been named artistic director of the Turtle Creek Chorale,” said Palant. “I look forward to continuing the level of excellence demonstrated by the Chorale over its 27-year history. I have the utmost respect for the Chorale’s membership and wholeheartedly believe in its mission statement. I look forward to becoming an active member of the greater Dallas arts community. With very large shoes to fill and with high aspirations, I promise to give my all to this organization and to the City of Dallas.”
Co-chaired by Doug Mitchell, Chorale president, and David Cegelski, board member, the Artistic Search Committee submitted the Chorale’s evaluations of the final three candidates to the board of directors following a national search, which concluded this past weekend. Each of the finalists auditioned with the full Chorale.
“The process produced three superb candidates and the Chorale has found the perfect fit,” said Mr. Anderson. “Jonathan Palant is the most wonderful choice for this position, and Dallas is going to be very proud of our selection.”
“The membership was impressed with all three finalists and enjoyed rehearsing with each of them,” said Mr. Mitchell. “They connected with Jonathan’s warmth and humor, his passion for making music and his vision to continue and expand the Chorale’s mission.”
“I believe Jonathan will be an excellent match for the TCC,” said Mr. Cegelski. “He will bring new life, ideas and creativity, ensuring that the Chorale’s artistic legacy and excellence will continue to flourish. His vision for expanded programs, intergenerational concerts and further outreach to the Dallas community are an excellent match with our mission to educate, entertain, unite and uplift.”
The search process began last fall and attracted candidates from across the United States. The six-month search included numerous interviews, video/DVD conducting examples, a 2007-08 Season Design Proposal—and culminated in auditions with the singing members last weekend.
