Shadowlands

Friday February 09, 2007 - Sunday March 04, 2007
Rated: PG

Contemporary Theatre of Dallas presents the stirring drama Shadowlands by William Nicholson. The powerful, uplifting story (basis for the 1993 film starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger) explores the later life of British writer C. S. Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia.

In the 1950s, Lewis is enjoying a comfortable bachelorhood, living with his also unmarried brother Warnie; writing his acclaimed works of Christian philosophy and fantasy; and teaching at Oxford University, where his circle of friends consists of erudite professors much like himself. Then he meets an entirely different sort of person: Joy Davidman Gresham, a noted American poet, former Communist, and convert from Judaism to Christianity who starts corresponding with Lewis, her favorite author. When Joy and her young son Douglas come to visit England, she and Lewis (a.k.a. Jack) forge a friendship that turns into a marriage of convenience, then true love, nourished by both happiness and tragedy.

Shadowlands includes mild adult language and emotionally intense situations.

Admission:
$27.00 – Adults
$22.00 – Students & Seniors (60 and up) and STAGE members.
Discounts for groups of 10 or more. Two-for-one tickets Thursdays and Sundays for KERA and ArtsCard members.
