Lyric Stage concludes its 15th season with the beloved musical Hello, Dolly!, based on the play The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder, and featuring music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and book by Michael Stewart.
This classic of the American theatre won 10 Tony Awards in 1964, including Best Musical. It tells the story of Dolly Levi, a spunky, larger than life widow who makes a living through several endeavors … including turning lonely singles into happily married couples. Comic complications arise when Dolly sets her sights on one of her wealthier clients, Horace Vandergelder. The score includes such lovely standards as “It Only Takes a Moment”, “Before the Parade Passes By”, and of course, the famous title song.
