Dallas Symphony Orchestra proudly joins forces with Dallas Black Dance Theatre to present the 2008 African American Festival, Primary Movements.
The evening will begin with education programs for the entire family. At 6:00 PM, bring the family and allow the kids to enjoy the education programs of the DSO, while Mom and Dad have an opportunity to view the visual arts display from local artist of Dallas. There will also be music in the lobby by the jazz artist Ascension Entertainment.
At 7:30 PM, under the direction of Maestro Leslie Dunner, the DSO will celebrate the impact of African American culture on classical music, followed by Primary Movements. The collaborative piece will explore how African American music and dance has evolved through the collective experiences of African Americans. The DSO and DBDT will take the audience on a captivating journey of artistic expression realized through music and dance. Composer Jonathan Bailey Holland has been heralded as ”...one to watch” by Newsweek magazine, and has been referred to as ”...a craftsman with an ear for effective orchestration, a fine theatrical sense and real skill when it comes to formal layout.”
